Today's Fragrance Story is all about Jo Malone London's Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense! I hope you enjoy this read. This is the collectors' special edition of the Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense.
Jo Malone London's Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense is described by JML as:
"Darkest Damask rose. Rich and textural, wrapped with smoky oud wood. Spiked with clove, decadent with praline. Magnetic."
"Top Note: Clove
Essence. Obtained by steam distillation of the dried buds. Sourced from Indonesia and Madagascar. Unusual as a top note, its spicy floral scent, reminiscent of carnation, unleashes instant richness, balancing the freshness of bergamot.
Heart Note: Damask Rose
Essence. Obtained by steam distillation of the fresh flowers. Sourced from Turkey, Morocco and Bulgaria. As the fragrance unfurls, this opulent floral, with its spicy, honey facets , wraps the scent with sumptuous texture.
Base Note: Oud Wood
Essence. Obtained by steam distillation. Sourced from Laos, one of the last placed where the highest quality Oud used in perfumery is found today. Smoky, woody and warm, with some balsamic and animalic accents it forms a perfect counterpoise."
My Thoughts on Jo Malone London Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense (Special Edition):
The Bottle: The special-edition decorated bottle has an etched-glass design and color-matched bow. The original bottle comes in a black and silver bottle. This special edition bottle is most collectible, if you are a Jo Malone London ("JML") fan like me.
The Scent: Immediately attractive. The velvety smooth rose petals immediately draw you in. If you love rose scents, this is the ultimate one. With clove, this is a warm floral scent that conjures up that rose petal texture. True to its name, it does smell "velvet" smooth. The oud gives it a gorgeous woody base that compliments the damask rose and clove.
The Dry Down: About 15-20 mins in, I could really tell the clove and oud notes coming through. It is like a fine wine maturing in intensity. That gorgeous herbal clove scent so lovingly balances out the sweetness of the damask rose. There is a bit of tangy notes coming from the woody oud.
The Tastes: Fabulous. Like biting into a rose flavoured smooth red velvet cake. So delicious.
The Colours: Immediately red velvet rose petals came to mind. Think of the biggest darkest red rose you have ever seen, and this is it. Fresh and alive on the rose bush. Unpicked and in its natural splendour.
The Feelings: Ohhh so lovely. It felt like softest finest velvet brushing up against my skin. The damask rose is calming and the clove soothing. The oud gives it an "Old World" feel. A warm and comforting fragrance.
The Wear Time: A good 6 hours at least. The Cologne Intense range from Jo Malone is meant to last longer with a higher concentration of the aromatics. The cologne intense range is more concentrated and intense with heavier notes.
Suggested occasions to wear this: When you feel romantic. I think more so due to the Special Edition packaging and the fact that this is a Jo Malone Cologne Intense and therefore more expensive, this is a special occasion fragrance. One to wear on date nights, to events and on days you want to remember.
Overall: A gorgeous one. I'm glad I managed to get this Special Edition of the Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense. I've always enjoyed the Cologne Intense range and this is the perfect addition to my collection. Whilst it is described as "unisex", I think it leans more to the feminine side, though I do know some men who like to smell like roses. Definitely one to add to your collection if you are a perfume lover like me. 10/10
