Review of EPIC Urban Decay and Game Of Thrones Collection

Being a huge Urban Decay AND Game of Thrones fan, you can imagine how long I've waited for this collection to be released. So here is my review of the Urban Decay and Game of Thrones Collection. The detail in the packaging, naming of shades and choice of shades shows quite clearly that this collection is a love song/ode to the Game of Thrones series which is in its final season (Mondays are no longer worth bothering with).

I've gone quite heavy on the photographs and have added a few videos.

I've also done a very detailed unboxing on my Instagram @teacupofmakeup_luxe which are saved under the Highlight: UDxGOT (click here to watch it).

REVIEW OF URBAN DECAY AND GAME OF THRONES COLLECTION

The Eyeshadow Palette

Beyond any doubt, the eyeshadow palette is a work of art in itself. It is a worthy addition to any makeup lover's collection and I can imagine even fans of Game of Thrones would buy this as memorabilia.

The eyeshadow palette is designed as book with a pull-out section for the eyeshadows. The really cool thing is that there is a pop-up of the Iron Throne. Also included is a mirror.

When you first open it, the first thing that greets you is a quote by Daenerys Targaryen. This reflects the theme of this collection which is a celebration of the strong women and empowerment.

It also includes a quote from my other favourite character, Tyrion Lannister. He may have physical disabilities but he is still able to triumph above it all. Another theme that I've held close to my heart.

This is truly a piece of treasure.

The collection itself has focused on four of the main characters/protagonists. I've more or less organised my review of the Urban Decay x Game of Thrones review in according to the Houses/Characters:

  • Night King and White Walkes

  • House Stark

  • House Lannister

  • House Targaryen

So I'll start my review of the Urban Decay and Game of Thrones collection by first showing you the eyeshadow palette (the elephant in the room) and how each piece of the collection fits in with each other. I will then continue in my review of UDxGOT by going into the smaller items like the highlighter; lipsticks; and eyeliners.

Review of the Urban Decay x Game of Thrones Eyeshadow palette

As an overall view, I felt that the eyeshadows in the eyeshadow palette were all very good. The only ones I wasn't quite sure of were the ones in the round pan described as "transformers". You are meant to "pat" or mix it with the other shades to get different effects. I think I just need to get used to working with them more.

It has a good mix of shimmers, metallics, and mattes. The shades in each quintet has been carefully selected so that you can achieve quite a few looks from one quintet. The shades are also versatile enough that you can choose and mix between the quintets.

.

The moment you dip your fingers into the palette, you will be pleasantly surprised by how creamy, silky and pigmented they are.

The "House of Stark" collection has some of my favourite shades. In fact, I love all of them, especially the green shade "The Sight".

I love the detailed of the illustration on the palette itself. They are very detailed paintings of key places/things in Game of Thrones.

All of the shades were smooth. I was pleasantly surprised by how the "Nymeria" shade worked out. It is very easy to blend. Also I note that I experienced little to no fall out.

I felt that the choice of design and shades were quite befitting of the House Lannister" collection. That House is generally know in GOT lore as being extremely rich, opulent and beautiful. I love the gold and bronze tones.

My eyes went straight for "Red Keep" and "Lannister Red".

Finally... saving the best for the last... THE DRAGON QUEEN

I say the "best" mostly because I love the character Daenerys Targaryen, Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen,First of Her Name, the Unburnt, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea,Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons.

I think if you want to create a makeup collection worthy of such a woman "burdened" with so many titles, you gotta do it BIG!

I love that the shades sort of show Daenerys Targaryen growth of a young innocent girl (the lilac shade are like the first few dresses she wore); to the grander shades that she wears as the series goes on. "Bay of Dragons" is a very sexy shade that does not photograph so well on its own as a swatch (you basically need to smash it to see the real effect).

The Mother of Dragons Highlighting Palette

This UD's version of was the wedding gift that changed everything for Daenerys Targaryen.

You get a very nice and practical selection of shades here. I like to use a smaller tapered brush to apply my highlighter now, so you can imagine me going carefully around the "eggs".

These are press-powdered highlighters which you can mix or use each shade on it's own.

The packaging has "raised" dragon scales and every attention to detail has been achieved.

Are you still with me? My comrades-at-arms and loyal GOT fans? Pretty cool that Ser Brienne and Ser Jaime finally got it on :)

The DEETS | Review of Urban Decay and Game of Thrones collection

YAH. I love lipsticks. One can never have enough lipsticks I think. I just had to do that golden lineup.

So there are four in the collection:

  • “Daenerys Targaryen" - metallized red

  • ”Cersei Lannister" - metallized rich bronze;

  • ”Sansa Stark" - a blush/peach tone in sheer

  • "White Walker" - a deep burgundy in comfort matte

As with most Vice Lipsticks I have used, I've found these to be richly pigmented, smooth and creamy. The "Sansa Stark" one seemed to be the "softest" and in my clumsy self, I almost broke it into two. Depending on how conservative/adventurous you are with your lip colours, I can imagine the Sansa Start and White Walker ones being the most popular. For me, I love all of them and I like to layer and mix them. You get quite an interesting outcome mixing the Cersei Lannister and White Walker one. Like an ombre effect.

There are little descriptions of the inspiration beyond each shade and a tidbit of motivation.

If you watched my unboxing (Highlights saved on my @teacupofmakeup_luxe Highlights: "UDxGOT", you can definitely marvel at the beautiful and thoughtful packaging.

I've always found the UD 24/7 Glide On Pencils very reliable. They glide one with precision and don't budge after they are set. I have been guilty of not closing the caps tight enough and some have dried out on me because of that. The need to sharpen them down is both a blessing (sterile and fresh) and a curse (I'm so lazy where did that 17th sharperner I've bought disappeared to?).

  • Lannister Gold

  • Winterfell Snow

  • Dragon Smoke

  • The Night King;

  • Dragon Smoke

So you get two lighter shades and two darker shades. Again, the packaging is sublime.

When I saw this, I thought it was in reference to "the Red Woman". Rather is is inspired by the dragons' flames. This is the first lip and cheek tint, I've ever had from Urban Decay. Tint's like these are hard to swatch, so when I do use it on my face,

FOR THE TRUE FANS

SWORDS OF URBAN DECAY AND GAME OF THRONES

The two standout swords in the GOT Lore. These have been lovingly recreated in amazing details as two makeup brushes in the collection.

Jon Snow's Longclaw Sword has been re-imagined as a multi-purpose eyeshadow brush perfect for applying and blending out the eyeshadows.

Arya Stark's Needle brush is a perfect all rounder when you want to create a detailed look. One thing I really like about all Urban Decay makeup brushes are that they are made from synthetic fibres which means less left on the brush and more on the eyes/face.

The roundered edge of the brush makes it easy to do smudgeout eyeliner as well as get into the inner corners.

I think you really need these brushes. I'm not going to use them that much because of the amount of artistic detail put into them. They work well as brushes and as works of art (I will probably frame them).
